Kathy has been employed in many lived experience roles across the mental health sector for almost 20 years. Primarily her advocacy and support work centers on the interrelationship between trauma and mental ill health/disadvantage.
She has personally been through a lot of adversity in her life which guides her interpersonal work with others. Having received a psychiatric diagnosis at age 12, she is no stranger to discrimination and re-victimisation. Utilising what she learnt through recovery, Kathy has contributed in many ways to independent advocacy, mental health system reform and the development of lived experience resources, training pathways and employment possibilities.
She has recently started to share her experiences of Domestic Violence as both a child and as an adult, with the goal to amplify the voice of lived experience within our communities and contribute to sector capacity building through collaboration, training and raising awareness of the long-term harm that is caused by FDV.
