Following Through: Case Management, Referral and Multi-Agency Collaboration in Perpetrator-Focused Practice

A 3 hour introduction to training for practitioners working with people who use family and domestic violence

This introductory workshop builds practitioners’ understanding of the practical mechanics of case management, referral and multi-agency collaboration in perpetrator-focused practice, from building the right partnerships through to producing accurate, defensible case records.

Participants will explore what it takes to build formal partnerships with police, courts, justice, health and specialist services, and the difference between a simple hand-off and genuine warm referral practice, where practitioners follow up actively to make sure a person using violence is actually connected to and engaged with the service they have been referred to.

The workshop covers participation in multi-agency case management for high-risk and high harm perpetrators, and what this coordinated role requires of practitioners in practice. Participants will also build their understanding of the intervention continuum, from brief intervention through to behaviour change, healing and fathering programs, so referrals are matched to the right level and type of intervention rather than made by default.

A key focus is report writing, including completion, non-completion and progress reports that accurately capture risk, behaviour change and the impacts of that behaviour on victim survivors. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to build and sustain multi-agency partnerships, make and follow through on warm referrals, participate confidently in coordinated case management, and produce reports that support safety and accountability.
