Primary Prevention in Schools

DART offers primary prevention programs in schools across education staff and students, that focus on addressing gendered violence and sexual violence by promoting healthy relationships and respect among students. These programs aim to educate students about the importance of consent, boundaries, and effective communication, as well as identifying the signs of abusive behaviour and being a positive upstander.

Through evidence-based, engaging workshops, discussions, and activities, DART helps education staff and students to understand the dynamics of family and sexual violence and empowers them to promote safety and respect in their schools and communities. By teaching students about the impact of violence and providing them with the tools to build positive, non-violent relationships, DART works to prevent future instances of abuse and create safer, more supportive school environments.

DART’s workshops support the Minister for Education and Department of Education in facilitating the “Standing Together Against Violence, 10 Actions”, specifically:

a. Action 5 – Provide training support for school staff.

b. Action 9 – Create a community conversation about violence in schools and online.

Our workshops align with DART’s Violence Prevention Education national best practice principles.
