FDV-informed Practice Supervision Training

Three-day masterclass 

Dates: 25, 26 and 29 April 

Family and Domestic Violence-informed Supervisor training is a three-day tertiary course. This course provides the advanced knowledge and skills for staff to be able to undertake in-depth, comprehensive FDV and sexual violence-informed supervision to their staff. Participants will also learn the competencies of effective supervisors, function of supervision, and processes while bringing FDV and sexual violence-informed skills into supervision.

This course is recommended for supervisors and managers who have attended previous FDV-informed training, and aligns with Domestic Family Sexual Violence and Child Wellbeing Supervision Best Practice Guidelines: Best practice supervision guidelines: Family violence, sexual assault and child wellbeing.

This course is currently with the ACA for endorsement as a recognised training course in supervision.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Building competencies of effective supervisors

  2. Identifying and having a greater understanding of the functions of supervision

  3. Understanding purpose and good practice principles of FDV and sexual violence-informed Practice Supervision

  4. Identifying the functions of FDV-informed practice supervision

  5. Confidence in bringing FDV and sexual violence-informed practice skills into supervision.

  • Redefining FDV and coercive control

  • Prevalence of FDV and sexual violence in practice

  • Unpacking competencies of effective supervisors

  • Mapping functions of supervision

  • Introduction to the Purpose and Principles of FDV and Sexual violence-informed practice supervision

Day two overview 

  • Mapping functions of FDV and sexual violence-informed practice supervision

  • Process of FDV and sexual violence-informed practice supervision

  • How to bring FDV and sexual violence-informed practice into supervision (skills building)

  • Understanding Safe Uncertainty and bringing skills into FDV and sexual violence practice supervision

  • Social Graces: How can we reflect on privilege within FDV and sexual violence-informed supervision

  • Adopting self-care strategies when exposed to FDV.

Day three overview 

  • Advanced Supervision Skills

  • Managing risk, vicarious trauma, conflict, parallel process

  • Types of Supervision

  • Supervision Simulation Practice

  • Real-world case practice in pairs with observer feedback

  • Final Assessment – Live Supervision Session
